Dog Gets Adopted On July 4 After Being In A Shelter For Ten Years
After ten years, a stunning American pit bull mix has finally found her ultimate home! The shelter dog, Jill, who spent the majority of her life at the Clay County Animal Shelter in Henrietta, Texas, was adopted on July 4 according to KFDX-TV. Jill was a stray, heartworm-positive, one-year-old dog when she initially arrived at the shelter ten years ago.
According to Bonnie Stone, the manager of the Clay County Animal Shelter, “Jill had previously been the subject of multiple applications; but, due to her reputation as a pit, many landlords refused to have her. Since it was difficult to locate her a family and this is a no-kill shelter, it ended up becoming her home and the staff members took on the role of her family.”
Stone went on to describe Jill’s time at the shelter before she was adopted as a family member: “Even when we just get them in, we grow with them, and they’re family members now.” Animal enthusiast Kellie Blassingame started looking for an elderly dog to adopt in early July and fell in love with Jill right away. Blassingame published Jill’s story on social media after adopting the pit bull mix to demonstrate that senior pets are deserving of the same love and attention as other dogs looking for permanent homes.
“Even though the other dogs were all quite affectionate, Jill just seemed to be drawn to me. One of the main reasons I wanted to adopt an older dog was because I simply knew that senior dogs don’t get adopted very often “Blassingame spoke to KFDX-TV about his encounter with Jill.
Jill Jellybean is now the affectionate name for Blassingame’s newest family member. Stone is overjoyed for Jill to begin her new chapter in life. “She was adopted on July 4, which is Independence Day. Jill achieved her freedom! “stated the shelter’s manager.
